LGBTQ Wedding Photographer - Celebrating PRIDE!

Pride month has been a bit different this year, but I wanted to celebrate by looking back on some of the awesome LGBTQ+ weddings I have been proud to photograph over the years. I’m excited to have lots more coming up in the next few years – let’s get ready to party!

LGBTQ Wedding Photographer

I always feel excited and humbled when a couple choose me to be part of their wedding day. I’m 100% rainbow friendly, same-sex weddings make up some of the most emotional celebrations I’ve been involved in. It’s important for couples to feel totally at ease around me, that’s how I capture those important moments in a relaxed documentary style. I’m so proud to be an ally to the LGBTQ community who have welcomed me to their epic weddings, crazy parties and beautiful intimate moments. I’ve experienced and shared love, laughter and definitely more than a few happy tears and I can’t wait to continue capturing moments and memories for my wonderful couples.

If you are planning your LGBTQ wedding and want to have a chat with an LGBTQ+ friendly wedding photographer I’d be really excited to hear from you, feel free to get in touch here.

Here are just a few highlights with some links for you to check out how awesome each day was in more detail.

Love is Love – and it’s pretty fabulous!

Following Oli and George’s wedding at Bristol Zoo I put together a short highlight video of some of the shots that we were so excited to capture on the day. Showered in rainbow confetti, not only did Oli and George have their family and friends at their wedding, they also had the animals at the zoo with a photo-bombing sea lion and a butterfly landing at the perfect moment all with the beautiful backdrop of Bristol Zoo Gardens.

Tony and Adam’s wedding at the Shard in London was a complete surprise to their guests who thought they were there for a birthday party! An incredible celebration at the top of the tallest building in Northern Europe with spectacular views over London was an amazing way for them to tie the knot! Such a privilege to be there to record their memories.

Matt and Paul (Tony and Adam’s Best Men), later asked me to photograph their own wedding after I got to know them at the Shard. It was great to be reunited with them all again at Matt and Paul’s wedding at Ellenborough Park overlooking Cheltenham racecourse, featuring helicopters, flamingos, an awesome soundtrack and even a sneaky ‘unicorn’.

Capturing Matthew and Nathaniel getting married in Newquay the couple ended up whipping off their shirts and shoes and taking a swim across the harbour together, much to the delight of their guests waiting at the restaurant on the other side for the reception!

Sarah and Rebecca’s wedding at Folly Farm was a beautiful and emotional ceremony and reception, made even more special by the pre wedding yoga and handstands.

Steph and Loz got married at Moddershall Oaks followed by a stroll around the beautiful grounds, a gorgeous 'wedding hammock snuggle moment' then some impressive dance moves into the night watched over by a kids corner tepee and a light up flamingo!

Gwen and Sarah’s wedding at Sugarloaf Barn in Wales was such a stunning day in the welsh countryside, they arrived at their reception in the bucket of a tractor and we were treated to some mic-dropping speeches and a layered rainbow wedding cake in a real working barn!

Old Down Manor Wedding Bristol 1

Becky & Ollie's Old Down Manor wedding in the stunning Bristol countryside.

The day began at Becky’s parent’s home in Portishead, I admired the beautiful high ceilings, sweeping wooden staircase and enormous windows as I set up and waited for Becky, her Mum and her bridesmaids to arrive back from having their hair done at the salon. My Associate Photographer Claire was with Ollie getting ready at their home a short distance away. As Becky arrived back to continue getting ready she was sporting some unusual headwear… the hairdresser had meticulously finished Becky’s hair and attached her veil on quite a blustery day, so had also added a quite striking giant white plastic bag over Becky’s head to keep everything in place, which did a brilliant job keeping out the wind and rain.

Becky and her Bridesmaids began getting ready, and once we’d been safely inside the house for a while, I suggested it might be time to remove the plastic bag headdress so we could see Becky’s stunning hair and veil, we weren’t disappointed! We did have a bit of a giggle about the ingenious plastic bag idea first though!

The beautiful atrium and stairwell with Becky & Ollie, during the evening at their Old Down Manor Wedding

The dresses were all hung from the huge arched windows, with a sign on the door to remind everyone to keep the doors shut to protect the dresses from the ever-watchful tabby cat who was very keen to be part of the action.

The Bridesmaids got ready first in pastel pink dress from TFNC London and Becky lovingly helped with the finishing touches, sharing a few laughs and smiles to calm the nerves. Then it was Becky’s turn to get ready, she climbed a ladder to retrieve her dress from its hanger and with the help of her bridesmaids all wearing white gloves, Becky was transformed into a bride. The dress perfectly suited to her petite frame, layers and layers (seriously this dress was impressive!) of fabric and perfect detailing lit up by the windows of Becky’s parent’s home. The pastel toned floral arrangements with lush green foliage from Bijou Florals tied the details together and looked spectacular.

Becky’s Mum gave her a hand decorated pebble for good luck and then along with the Bridesmaids, headed off in the vintage Sunbeam Limousine to St Peter’s Church in Portishead giving Becky some time with her Dad before the car returned to take them to the church.

Wedding Ceremony at St Peter’s Church in Portishead

Ollie was waiting at the church for Becky to arrive, along with their gathered family and friends, Ollie had the additional support of knowing that his uncle was conducting the ceremony and they waited together for Becky’s arrival. The ceremony itself was touching and emotional, with Ollie’s uncle marrying them adding to how special this day was for the couple. Candles were lit and the choir and organist added to the atmosphere in the church which dates back to the 1300’s.

A confetti line up of friends and family outside the church greeted Becky and Ollie after the ceremony with pink petals gathering in the train of Becky’s dress. The Sunbeam limousine then whisked Mr and Mrs Marshall away to their wedding reception venue at Old Down Manor and Estate.

Old Down Manor Wedding Reception in Bristol

Old Down Manor is set in 66 acres of spectacular grounds in the rolling hills of the South West. With landscaped gardens and views across to the River Severn, we wanted to make the most of the changable weather as we arrived so took five minutes to have a mini photoshoot with Becky and Ollie next to their wedding car in front of the stunning country house.

We went inside to warm up and mingle with the guests, taking in the elegant floral arrangements and table decorations. With everyone warm and happy we captured some group portraits indoors as it was getting quite chilly outside in the March breeze! The superbly renovated rooms of the Manor House provided the perfect backdrop for some slightly more formal and also relaxed and fun group photographs. As the guests chatted and sipped their drinks we went outside for five minutes for a little photoshoot with Becky and Ollie, the breeze definitely adding to the atmosphere of the shots, and at one point Becky’s veil was swept up and blown away, swiftly pursued by Ollie and a bridesmaid! The landscaped gardens and impressive hedges at Old Down Manor feature in some really snuggly moments with the new husband and wife.

Back inside and the couple were announced in for their wedding breakfast, surrounded by their lovely family and friends. I’ve got quite good over the years at identifying the ‘naughty table’ at weddings (it’s where they have the most fun!) and this one was no exception with a tray of shots arriving fairly early on!

Just as the meal was finishing a beautiful sunset fell emerged through the clouds and over the grounds. With a view of the Severn estuary, and sunrays lighting up the bridge in the distance. We made a quick dash to the roof terrace to capture some shots with this stunning backdrop. On our way back we found a peacock wandering about, so of course he featured in some portraits too. Heartfelt speeches followed dinner, with a particularly hilarious and brutally honest one from Ollie’s sister who described what it was like growing up with him and left us all in stitches!

The evening party kicked off and I could tell it was going to be a wild one, with a wedding casino, sweets and many more drinks, shoes were kicked off in exchange for dancefloor flip flops, with friends and family dancing the night away together and throwing some impressive shapes on the dance floor. Everyone braved the cold March darkness outside and had some fun with sparklers which finished a perfect evening after a memorable day in the countryside and a huge party to celebrate Becky and Ollie’s Old Down Manor wedding day!

Last weekend I was excited to join Becky & Ollie at their Old Down Manor Wedding in Bristol. As it was only a coupleof days ago I've just begun taking a look through their photographs from Old Down and selecting some for their highlights. Of course I got carried away and couldn't help but chare a few little moments; from Becky getting ready in the morning before her wedding at her parents home in Portishead, before jumping into a beautiful old Sunbeam and heading for the church, and finally to their rocking wedding reception at Old Down Manor in Bristol. Hope you love these as much as I do guys! xx

Photographer in Split Croatia - Beautiful Engagement Photographer in Split

Photographer in Split Croatia

I flew to the beautiful island of Solta in Croatia to photograph an amazing destination wedding. And whilst I was there I got a call from my great friends Katie and Tony, who by complete coincidence happened to be in Split on holiday! I was pretty exhausted from the wedding the day before, but it was too good an opportunity to miss and I told them to come over to the island of Solta and we could hang out and capture some photographs to celebrate their engagement!

The sun was warm and the light perfect, as they stolled and played together by the the azure water. I absolutely must return to Croatia! I'm reminiscing today about the afternoon I spent in the mountains of Wales photographing the amazing Miriam and Dan, to celebrate their engagement. We chased the sunset at Gospel Pass - the highest road in Wales on the edge of the Brecon Beacons, before having hot chocolate from a flask as the sun dipped below the horizon. Truly amazing memories and moments.. I have a particular love of adventure and If you're searching for a Mountain Wedding Photographer for your elopement or wedding, please call me!

What an incredible way to end my 14th year doing the thing I love the most - photographing Tabitha & Julian's beautiful wedding at the Shard in London. And at Christmas time too! A Christmas wedding in London has to be right up there on my romantic weddings hit list, and this amazing wedding ceremony at the top of the Shard in London didn't dissapoint. Getting married at Shangri La Hotel at the top of the Shard in London is something really quite special and an amazing for me to photograph!

Shard Wedding Photographer

The Shard Wedding Photographer in London

I'm still in the edit with this collection, but here are a few teasers from my work as the Shard Wedding Photographer. From a beautiful silhouette of the couple overlooking London at night from the top of the Shangri La Hotel at the Shard. To finishing their day with a couple photo shoot on Gabriels Pier on the South Bank, with the OXO Tower in the background (which is also where they got enagaged, and joined their frineds and family later on for their wedding breakfast). The Christmas tree at the Shard was looking amazing, but I'm still wondering quite how they managed to get it up to the 35th floor in the first place? The views from the top of the Shard are just incridible. With London stretched out beneath the Shard, I watched the light change and finally the sun dissapearing, drawing a blanket of night over London - a completely different feel to their Shard wedding then emerges. And yes, that is me reflected in the christmas decorations.

Bath Wedding Photographers | A trio of luxury wedding fun in the Autumn Sunshine

I had the most amazing day yesterday capturing the fabulous C&R's Army wedding in Bath. Starting with the most relaxed and fun bride prep at the Royal Crescent Hotel (insert Baboon in-joke here), they tied the knot in The Assembly Rooms before a stunning sunset wedding reception at the Roman Baths (Pump Rooms). A few teasers for now. Incredible back flips on the Royal Crescent lawns courtesy of young Heidi (big thanks to her Mum & Dad). Enjoy, Rich x

Aldwick Court Wedding Photographer in Somerset

Hot, Hot, Hot

Let’s start this one with a disclaimer, it was the hottest day of the year… one of the hottest June days for 40 years… hotter than Hawaii… easily as hot as any of the summer weddings I have photographed in Italy and Spain… there were fans, ice creams, cows, human pyramids and most of the junior guests running around semi naked before the party had even started! I was so excited to be joining Holly and Rob as their Aldwick Court wedding photographer!

The People

Holly and Rob are two of the nicest people you’ll ever meet, I was so happy to be with them on their wedding day. They are hilarious to hang out with, an absolute force of nature as a couple and the epitome of young love. Plus, any bride that wears Converse on her wedding day has my vote! Welcome to the unforgettable wedding of Holly and Rob at Aldwick Court Farm and Vineyard in the rolling Somerset countryside. I was joined on the day by Vitaliy Turovskyy as Associate Photographer and Sam at White Villa Films as Videographer – the melting dream team, fuelled by ice cream and about ten gallons of water!

Bridal Prep

I started my day at Holly’s parents’ house, where it was already heating up to be a scorcher of a day! The atmosphere was relaxed, with just the right amount of excitement and wedding tension in the air as the day began to heat up to tropical temperatures. They popped open the champagne and Holly had a constant flurry of fans around her from her helpful entourage, in an attempt to stop her from melting. I’ve worked with her bridal make-up artist Grace Kingsley a few times now, so we all felt very relaxed as Holly and her bridesmaids got ready.

In her gorgeous gown from Willowby by Watters at Perfect Day Bridal veil from Britten Weddings and custom made Converse trainers, Holly came downstairs and saw her Dad for the first time as a bride on her wedding day, a beautiful and emotional moment (I didn’t cry… honest… there was something in my eye!)

To the Church

The vintage Jaguar took Holly and her Dad to St John the Baptist Church in Axbridge, where her bridesmaids met her, along with the page boys in pastel colour waistcoats and bow ties, remarkably well behaved and super cute in their awe at the arrival of the bride. Holly and her bridesmaids carried impressive bouquets from Clifton Flowers, with dense green foliage and delicate white flowers adding to the natural and effortless beauty of the whole day.

St John the Baptist Church is on a hill in the centre of Axbridge and dominates the town square, so there was quite an audience gathered in the streets and emerging from the nearby pub watching and cheering as Holly climbed the steps to the church.

Let’s Get Married

The coolness inside the church was a welcome break from the baking sun and as Holly walked down the aisle hand in hand with her Dad there were a few tears from the Bridesmaids and gathered friends and family. The unusual elaborately plastered blue ceiling of the church almost looked like the sky outside, apparently a local man paid ten guineas (£10.50!) for the work in 1636 – money well spent if you ask me! With bright sunlight streaming through the stained-glass windows Holly and Rob were married in an emotional ceremony followed by Phily K, one of the bridesmaids, singing and entertaining the guests accompanied by a pianist as they signed the register.

Everyone stood and applauded as they left the church; armed with confetti, the guests lined the steps down to the waiting car and showered Holly and Rob with petals in the baking sunshine. As I went to grab some water from a local shop, I caught up with a few of the guests who were emerging with armfuls of ice creams and cans of Gin and Tonic… inspired by this, I also grabbed some ice cream for the team and headed off to Aldwick Court for the reception.

Aldwick Court Farm and Vineyards Wedding Reception

Aldwick Court Farm and Vineyards is an exclusive venue in the rolling Mendip Hills, the working farm and vineyards made a stunning backdrop as Holly and Rob enjoyed canapes on the terrace with their guests. We took some group portraits inside to keep the guests comfortable and out of the hottest part of the day and then I went out with Rob and the groomsmen into the vineyard. In their suits from Dyfed Menswear the boys managed to grab hold of Rob and throw him into the air, I captured some moments of him completely airborne (don’t worry, he escaped un-harmed!).

Wedding Breakfast

The wedding breakfast was full of drinks, hugs and laughter, and an impressive amount of cake (I LOVE cake!) provided by Pearly King Cakes in Bristol. We were treated to some incredibly funny speeches including some beautifully embarrassing and hilarious moments in a mic dropping speech from Holly’s Dad, Chris. Their niece Hannah was surprised with a chorus of happy birthday and a cake of her own as it was her 7th birthday and, thoughtful as ever, the bride and groom didn’t want her to feel left out.

By this point in the day, the small humans amongst the guests had almost totally stripped off and were running around half naked, playing an inventively adapted version of table tennis on the lawn. Their garden games were provided by Soundwave Entertainments.

The Human Pyramid

As the kids enjoyed the garden and guests chatted and played garden games, Holly and Rob decided they wanted to do something crazy… my response ‘How crazy do you want to get?’ Within seconds, the groomsmen had assembled into a (very wobbly) human pyramid with the fearless bride at the top! Thankfully I caught some shots before the whole thing came tumbling down and became a giggling bundle on the grass – One of those images actually went on to win several international awards.

Creative Couple Portraits

As the day cooled slightly into the evening, we took Holly and Rob to the fields and captured some stunning moments with them, the wind was picking up and I ended up wrapped in Holly’s veil at one point! We had the chance to shoot some natural, playful creative portraits as we took a walk back through the working farm and barns before gearing up for a WILD party.

Party Time

In the best possible tradition of weddings at Aldwick Court, this was full of crazy party moments with music courtesy of the super cool Dukes of Havoc. From a meeting of the groomsmen in the gents’ toilet, to more than one guest leaving the ground to be thrown in the air, there was of course a splendid exhibition of ‘the worm’ on the dance floor and I was at the heart of the madness, capturing the killer shapes and insane moments of the party into the night.

It was a mad one, an emotional one, a beautiful one and a memorable one – thanks Holly and Rob for letting us be part of your scorcher of a summer wedding, it was awesome!
